Sleep Whale

Formed in the northern Texas college town of Denton, Sleep Whale channeled Krautrock legends Can and Neu! alongside avant luminaries such as Steve Reich and Brian Eno into a unique sound that won them plenty of supporters right from the get-go. Convened in 2006 by founding members Joel North (guitar, cello) and Bruce Blay (percussion, samples, guitar, bass, et al.), the group released its first EP, Little Brite, in 2009. An album, Houseboat, came out later that same year. In addition to broadening their sound, Sleep Whale added to their roster, taking on Paul North (vocals, guitar) and Spencer Stephenson (drums) in order to fully realize the group's unique sound both in the studio and on the road. – All Music Guide
