SLEEP WHALE   WV RELEASES
SW
Formed in the northern Texas college town of Denton, Sleep Whale channeled Krautrock legends Can and Neu! alongside avant luminaries such as Steve Reich and Brian Eno into a unique sound that won them plenty of supporters right from the get-go. Convened in 2006 by founding members Joel North (guitar, cello) and Bruce Blay (percussion, samples, guitar, bass, et al.), the group released its first EP, Little Brite, in 2009. An album, Houseboat, came out later that same year. In addition to broadening their sound, Sleep Whale added to their roster, taking on Paul North (vocals, guitar) and Spencer Stephenson (drums) in order to fully realize the group's unique sound both in the studio and on the road. – All Music Guide

“At the end of the day though, it's always nice to put on some nice comfy tunes and reflect on the good life. Last summer's chill mode album was given to me in the form of Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago. This year, I may give it to Sleep Whale.”
– Together In Digital Dreams [more here]
"Every track on this record is full of surprises, textures and effective broad strokes, but it's the intangible quality of the songcraft that takes these "electro-acoustic" pieces beyond merely interesting and thrusts them into the realm of celebratory emotional resonance."
– We Shot JR [read full article here]
"These two men are extremely talented musicians, who make fantastic music"
– The Tape [read full article here]
“As a whole the album is a thought provoking, redolent, sweet, tender affair that really works when you lay back with some good headphones and take some time to daydream in the clouds.”
